Like-minded through humility

Read: Philippians 2:1-11

Key verse: “fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.” (Phil 2:2, NKJV)

Paul writes from prison to a church he is fond of. He wants them to be like-minded, and he says how that grows: doing nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility counting others better than yourselves (verses 3-4). His example is Christ, who humbled himself to death on the cross and was therefore exalted by God (verses 5-11).

Like-minded does not mean everyone thinks the same about everything. It means we are set on the same thing together: the mind of Christ.

Reflect: Where can you let the other person go first this week?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You made yourself small for us. Free me from the need to be right all the time. Amen.
