The wall is down

Read: Ephesians 2:11-22

Key verse: “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation” (Eph 2:14, NKJV)

Paul writes to believers who do not come from Israel. They were far away: without citizenship in Israel, with no share in the covenants of promise (verse 12). Through the blood of Christ they have been brought near. He is their peace. He makes Jews and Gentiles one body, because on the cross he put the hostility to death (verses 14-16).

The Gentiles become fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself the chief cornerstone (verses 19-20). No other people takes the place of Israel. Those who were far away are brought in. And what happens there is Christ’s work, not ours.

Reflect: Which wall between people do you know, in your family, your church or your street?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are our peace. Break down what stands between us, including what I built myself. Amen.
